Peter Beatty
Peter Beatty is a musician and stained glass artist who has recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, bringing with him a rich background in both the arts and nonprofit leadership. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Peter has spent much of his life blending his two passions: music and stained glass. Now, as he settles into Portland, he is excited to further explore his interests in historic stained glass and the artistic heritage of the Pacific Northwest.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Peter has always had an appreciation for both artistic expression and the power of community. His musical background is extensive, and he has spent years performing and teaching, honing his skills in various musical genres. Peter’s journey into stained glass art began as a way to bring creativity into his life in a new form. His particular passion is in historic stained glass, with a special interest in pieces used in the homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He’s fascinated by the intricate designs and the deep cultural significance of Wright's work, particularly how stained glass was used to complement his architecture and tell a larger story.
Before moving to Portland, Peter was the Director of Operations for a nonprofit organization in Kansas City that hosted free music programs for underserved teens. In that role, Peter helped to expand the organization’s reach and impact, ensuring that young people in marginalized communities had access to high-quality musical education. His work with the nonprofit allowed him to see firsthand how the arts could change lives, giving him a sense of purpose and fulfillment while connecting with a diverse group of young artists.
Now in Portland, Peter is eager to continue combining his artistic talents with his love for history, especially as it relates to stained glass. He is keen on exploring the region’s architectural and artistic heritage, as well as learning about the role stained glass has played in the history of the city. His expertise in both music and visual arts gives him a unique perspective on how different forms of creativity can intersect and enrich one another.
Peter is also excited to be part of Portland’s vibrant arts community and hopes to collaborate with local organizations and artists to continue promoting the value of creative expression. Whether it’s through stained glass installations or music programs for young people, he remains committed to the idea that the arts have the power to build bridges and create meaningful connections.
As he continues to explore the historical significance of stained glass in the context of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs, Peter hopes to use his skills to contribute to the preservation of such art forms, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of these unique pieces. Ultimately, Peter’s move to Portland is an opportunity for both personal and professional growth, as he pursues his passions while contributing to the cultural fabric of his new community.
